American National Bank participated in United Way of Broward County’s REAL MEN READ on April 28. SVP-Loan Officer Perry Alexander volunteered his time to be a mentor by reading to children at North Side Elementary School in Fort Lauderdale, one of United Way’s Reading Pal’s Schools.
In Broward County, Real Men Read mentors are invited by United Way of Broward County to visit targeted schools to share their own love of reading, read books to students in grades PK-5, and help distribute books. As mentors read to children, students excitedly interact with the reader by sharing questions, making predictions for what will happen next in the story, and making connections to help bring the book to life. At the end of the story, before goodbyes, mentors pass out books to the children so they can take their new book home to read over and over again with their families and friends.
